The Mayan
Tribe
The Mayan tribe first started one town which eventually spread out into over 40 different towns. Gonzalo Guerrero a Spaniard shipwreks near a mayan town in 1511. He eventually married a Mayan noble. Guerrero helped the Mayan resist and fight off other Spaniards. The spanish are able to put an end to the Mayan in 1541.
The Mayan tribe lived in Mesomerica which is near now day Mexico. This location allowed Gonzalo Guerrero and other spainyards easy acess from the shore.
Geography
Economy
The Maya mainly grew maize or corn as a crop. The Maya structures were very bright colors like yellow,red and orange.
Social Structure
In Maya there were two main types of social structure low class and high class. Low class included slaves, farmers. High class included royal, preist, merchent etc.
Goverment
The Maya Goverment was similar to ours. The tribe would have a ruler or king similar to our president. Maya also had many merchents to get items such as food. Currency would be items such as cacoa seeds.
Beliefs and Religion
The Maya had many beliefs all having to do with religion. A belief they had was that sacrafice allowed the gods to do their respective job. The Maya had a very interesting creation story, it goes by two brothers the soon to be moon and sun god were killed by others gods. There heads were hung on a tree an woman came up and one of the brothers spat into her hand and impregnated her. The two brothers soon came back to life as fish then street performers then their selfs. They then tricked the gods in a majic trick the gods tried and got killed deeming the two brothors Moon god and Sun god.
Acheivements
The Maya had many acheivements that for its time were amazing. The Maya had the number 0 which alowed the Maya to do advanced math for the time. The Maya had a calender which was very close almost the same to the current calender we use today. The Maya could find many phenominons such as leap day and special days where some of their structures would cast a shadow of a beast or other things
Architecture
The had many different ideas when it came to architecture. The maya loved bright colors as I said before. Maya also like tall buildings and sylvan areas.
